Berta Cusó is an award-winning illustrator and comic artist from Barcelona based in Berlin.
She studied Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and Art and Architecture at the CCNY in New York City. Later, she complemented her education on illustration at the AID (Berlin) and Espai Francesca Bonnemaison (Barcelona). Her background in architecture allowed her to work closely with artists and curators designing spaces for installations, festivals and shows internationally. Her pictorial work has been exhibited in Barcelona, New York, Madrid and Berlin.
Currently, her work focuses on illustration and comics. Her world is colorful, full of detail and often with an implicit humor, telling stories without the need for too many words. Her non-fiction comic Paral·lel about the nightlife of the cabarets in Barcelona during the last decades of the Spanish dictatorship was finalist at the International Ara Prize for Comics in Catalan in 2020.
She was awarded Propuestas VEGAP in 2022 for her graphic novel project about women in war. With the work Que bèstia! L’extraordinària història del Circ Cric she won the Graphic Novel Prize Premi València 2025. She teaches at the Open University of Catalonia.
Berta is represented by Ute Körner Literary Agency.
